Injection Lipolysis

Injection Lipolysis or “Lipodissolve” is a procedure which allows a doctor to inject directly into the fatty layer beneath the skin and literally dissolve fat away. This therapy was initially developed in Europe to treat a disorder called Xanthelasma in which fat is abnormally deposited under the eyelids.  Lipolysis is not a replacement for traditional liposuction, but a unique procedure used to sculpt the body and modify body contours by reducing small to medium patches of fat.

Lipodissolve has evolved tremendously since its initial introduction in 1988.  This therapy can reduce localized fat in nearly any area. The results on facial procedures in particular are exceptional, and many patients experience dramatic improvement, taking years off the face and rejuvenating the skin and complexion.  When used in combination with other adjunctive procedures, Lipodissolve can enhance the face and body naturally without the risks or discomfort of traditional surgical liposuction.

Ideal candidates for treatment are patients of stable weight who do not want or need surgery but who have spot fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The medication is directly injected into the fat and typical treatment takes 15 minutes or less depending on the size of the area being treated. Once the procedure is complete, the body begins the natural metabolic process of fat emulsification and elimination from the body.  Typically, one to four treatments at six to eight week intervals are usually necessary to achieve an optimal result.

Results are usually not apparent immediately after the initial treatment; however, most patients see a good result after two to three sessions. For smaller areas such as the chin and jawline a single treatment is often sufficient, and results can be seen in as little as four weeks.  The number of treatments needed vary from person to person depending on the area affected, the type of fat encountered, and the overall surface area to be treated.

Serious or long-term side-effects have not been reported.  Thousands of patients have undergone the procedure and most report only mild bruising, itching, and swelling after the treatment.  Patients considering treatment should avoid alcohol at least 24 hours prior to treatment.  Waxing, laser treatment, sun beds and electrolysis should be avoided for at least 48 hours prior to treatment.
